Eat Whatever You Want!

My son and I had a fun conversation at dinner last night.

He bowls with his classmates on Friday so when I pick him up around 6 we head to a special father son dinner....usually Denny's......yes, no expense spared!

I saw an articlethis week in USA Today and the question was if you could eat anything you wanted whenevr you wanted and not gain weight or you could have $10,000 which would you take?

This question was asked of women and 72% took the money the other 28% took the food super power!

My son and I talked about this for quite some time and we had good healthy debate.

The core of our discussion ended up being around long term health.

I said I would gladly pass up the $10,000 for the ability to chow down whenever I wanted without the scale laughng at me......he said but dad if it was only a good deal for a year because you got sick and died would it be worth it......talk about a moment of clarity....that was it gang....right there I remembered why I sacrificed to lose all the weight and start eating better!

Who said the 12 year olds aren't the ones with the best view on life?

    I am a new follower to your blog here. I am going to be working my way through your previous posts but though I would comment on this one first.

    It was very refreshing to see where this article ended up. As I began reading it, I thought it would be a story of the parent help explain the importance to the child. I was caught off guard to see it was your son that helped you understand the healthier point of view in the long run.

    I am really interested to what you have to say because when I began my current career I was at a fairly healthy (strong) 212 lbs. Now eight years later and lots of traveling (like I hear you had/have yourself) I am pushing the very unhealthy 300 lbs mark.

    Thanks for sharing and looking forward to see/hear more of what you have to say.

  2. Welcome aboard Chad...not real intellectual on this blog but seem to be some nuggets people can hold on to! I feel you on the work stuff I went from a college athlete to a couch potato in about seven short years when I turned into the traveling guy! So hard to keep the discipline in planes, trains automobiles and conference calls but it can be done and it can be fun. My son really did throw a curve ball at me last night but those are the ones that keep me grounded.
    Life is precious from so many different perspectives...if we keep our eyes and ears open and we aren't to proud to hear it we will be amazed by the truths all around us......look forward to fighting the fight with you....don't try and do to much you did not go from 212 to 300 in a few months....you just need to reverse the process gradually in a way you can live with forever and it will all come off slowly but surely....attainable weekly or monthly goals that you can live with will be the key!
